2007 BAND REVIEW

2007 has been a slightly less busy year for Endless Knot compared to previous ones. Serious time has been spent in the rehearsal studio working on new material and re-jigging older songs in readiness for the recording of our long awaited album - production begins in January 2008.

The stand out gig of 2007 had to be our headling slot at the Cotesbach Festival, a 400th anniversary celebration of the Cotesbach Riots. On the day the sun shone for the first time in months, the music was of the finest (including a cracking set from the one and only Rory McLeod) and the ale was flowing. It reminded me of the old style of festival... kids and dogs running about, cheap booze and food for sale, stalls and craft demonstrations all over the place and hundreds of people exchanging ideas, dancing and drinking the day and night away.

After we finished our extended set in the main field, we drunkenly put our tents half up and headed for the aftershow party in the courtyard. There was an amazing atmosphere filling the small square with the sound of fiddles, guitars and percussion drifting from the open barn doors where more bands played until the early hours. In one corner was a makeshift bar in an old brick outhouse with a roaring open fire and wooden pews surrounding tables supporting several barrels of ale.

I believe I spent hours boring the hell out of people that night - I don't really remember much about it - but at least I was enjoying myself. I think Cotesbach 2008 will be a smaller affair, but it is definitely worth the trip to check it out. I'll see you there!

Now the Endless knot award for the smallest stage of the year. It goes to the Walnut Tree in Blisworth. It was hard work trying to cram six fully grown blokes - some more fully grown than others (especially in the belly department) but we'll say no more about that will we Terry! A drumkit, amps, a P.A. and a vast array of other instruments were also crammed into a space that a contortionist would turn their nose up at. It was well worth it though - it was one of those gigs that make you glad that you're in a band. The crowd were singing, dancing and generally having the craic. Hopefully we'll be back there soon.

The smallest audience of the year prize goes to a pub in Milton Keynes and because I'm a nice bloke, I won't mention the name. We outnumbered the audience 6-0! Apparently there was a two for the price of one drinks offer the night before and the normally reliable regulars were all either skint or nursing Elephant sized hangovers. Or both. At the the landlord enjoyed our set and has promised us a full house next time!

It was great to see some familiar faces around the Northampton area - thanks to all of you that followed us from gig to gig and a special mention goes to the many folks who kept on badgering us to get on with the album... it won't be long now! Our E.P has sold amazingly well and the proceeds have been ploughed back into studio rehearsal time, booze, and fuel for the van. We have also discovered that we get better MPG if we let Terry drink the petrol and push the van rather than putting the petrol in the van and driving it! Remarkable!*

Most of January and February 2008 will be / is / has been (depending on when you read this) spent in the Cabin studios in Coventry, recording our first proper album (about time too). Baz has been busy designing the covers as well as putting together a pretty impressive press pack. March is looking good for gigs with many already booked including the Wharf at Bugbrooke which is now one of our longest running and most popular venues. We also have a performance confirmed at the Aylesbury Theatre (tickets available from the venue) or see our gig guide for more details.

OK, that will do for now, but keep an eye out on our MySpace site as well as here on Getknotted.org for the latest news and gig information. Have a great new year and we hope to see you at our 2008 gigs.

Cheers and all the best, Marc
